Ref. 2010 - Helicobacter pylori infection, systemic inflammation and vascular ageing: novel biomarkers for cardiovascular prevention
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
06/MEDS-05 - Internal Medicine
Description
Helicobacter pylori infection is among the most widespread worldwide. Recent evidence suggests a potential role in cardiovascular risk through inflammatory pathways and endothelial dysfunction, but the link is understudied. The researcher will examine association between H. pylori and inflammatory parameters (monocyte-to-HDL ratio, lipoprotein(a), uric acid) as well as indices of arterial stiffness (ABI, cfPWV) in at least 400 high cardiovascular risk subjects. H. pylori infection will be detected with non-invasive tests, and biomarkers measured through standardized laboratory methods. Statistical analyses will compare H. pylori-positive and negative subjects to identify independent associations, accounting for age, sex, smoking status, diabetes, and hypertension. Confirming a link between H. pylori and cardiovascular ageing could improve risk stratification and guide future targeted preventive and therapeutic strategies.
