The objective of the project is to introduce new approaches that allow for the calculation of the importance of systems, structures, and components—and, more generally, of parameters or variables—in the modeling of complex technological assets, by leveraging modern computer simulations.The increasing sophistication of simulators and the revolution brought about by artificial intelligence techniques require a new conceptualization of importance measures, one that preserves their traditional interpretability while enabling their use in more general simulation contexts.A key innovation involves the development of within-simulation (or given-data) estimators that allow importance measures to be computed directly from simulation data, without needing to rerun the model. This drastically reduces computational cost, making the calculation independent of the system's dimensionality.

Current LLMs, although trained on vast amounts of text data, still lack social awareness, making them poorly aligned with human values and unsuitable for sensitive contexts. Passive text exposure is insufficient: interactive environments with real-time feedback are required. The SALMON project integrates social awareness directly into pre-training through dynamic scenarios, creating models capable of recognizing cultural and social cues and introducing new evaluation metrics. The TOLD project proposes a voice-based annotation paradigm that is richer, more natural, and more efficient than written text. Post-doc researchers will handle data collection, experiments, pre-training, evaluations, analyses, and coordination with interdisciplinary teams, ensuring scientific and ethical rigor.

The research activity will be part of the project funded by ERC Starting Grant 101165368 MAGNETIC "Minimal submanifolds in Arbitrary Geometries as Nodal sEts: Towards hIgher Codimension". The project will then revolve around questions of variational flavor in the context of geometric measure theory, calculus of variations, elliptic partial differential equations, and geometric analysis in general. Specifically, the project will focus on the construction and regularity of minimal submanifolds in codimension higher than one, through the calculus of variations for approximations of the area functional, obtaining critical points which are either parametrized or limiting nodal sets of critical points of energies inspired by physical models. The project will also investigate relationships between minimal submanifolds and curvature, their construction in non-smooth spaces, and other related questions in geometric analysis.

This interdisciplinary project aims to develop conceptual tools for recognising and combating forms of epistemic injustice – i.e. wrongs inflicted specifically on people as agents of knowledge – that manifest themselves in translation. The central thesis of this project is that the theory of epistemic injustice offers a more precise model for interpreting cases of injustice in literary translation, overcoming the limitations of the current debate. The methodology involves a dialogue between the “continental” theoretical tradition on translation, translation studies and “analytical” social epistemology. This project will benefit from collaboration with the chair of “Traduction et injustice épistémique” at the Collège international de philosophie in Paris, and with the philosophy departments of Northwestern University (USA) and the University of Edinburgh (UK).

The resilience of Europe’s Critical Infrastructure (CI) is increasingly challenged by interdependencies, cascading risks, and poly-crises. Despite regulatory advances (CER, NIS2), organisations still struggle with inter-organisational coordination across multiple CI operators and authorities The research project responds to these gaps by harnessing Decentralised Autonomous Organisations (DAOs), new organisational forms that operate through blockchain and smart contracts, to operationalize, the robust governance principles of inclusivity, adaptability, transparency, accountability, and trust. The project will deliver a Proof-of-Concept of a blockchain-based platform with modular tools for: i) Multi-level decision-making; ii) Participatory planning; iii) Privacy-preserving information-sharing; i Automating post-incident learning with structured DAO-logged data. The project advances a “resilience by design” approach.

02/PHYS-03 - Experimental Physics Of Matter And Applications
The candidate will contribute to the abovEF project, funded by FIS2 AdG, which aims to build and operate a completely new laboratory for electronic spectroscopy. The main innovation is an angle-resolved inverse photoemission (ARIPES) apparatus that operates in the UV photon energy range with unprecedented resolution exceeding 40 meV. The project has a strongly experimental approach, from instrumentation design, through construction and commissioning, to its use in the study of quantum materials. The instrumentation design activity will be complemented by ARPES, RIXS, and XMCD experiments on quasi-2D materials with special magnetic and electronic properties, such as altermagnetism and topological states. Once the abovEF apparatus is completed, the main activity will consist of measuring ARIPES spectra on quasi-2D materials.

The research activity will focus on the development and application of advanced photonics systems for the analysis of highly scattering media. The key technique to handle is time-correlated single-photon counting with pulsed lasers as source. Different detectors will be used spanning from Silicon Photomultipliers, to Single Photon Avalanche Diodes up to Superconducting Nanowire Single Photon Detectors. These techniques will be used for non-invasive in vivo characterisation of biological tissues at depths of few cm. Models based on the Diffusion approximation of the Radiative Transport Equation or Monte Carlo simulations of photon transport will be adopted. The research activities need to be driven in a framework of Open Science, with particular reference to deployment of open datasets.

The SwitchFHE project primarily aims to develop a general modular framework for fully homomorphic encryption (FHE) in a threshold setting, where secret keys are shared among several parties and decryption and auxiliary operations are carried out collaboratively. On top of this framework, the project investigates and designs efficient and provably secure switching mechanisms between different FHE schemes, so that each phase of a computation can run under the scheme best suited to its operations (e.g. linear algebra vs. bit-level logic). The work includes the analysis and description of the threshold model, the security and performance analysis of the proposed protocols, and their implementation in practical libraries for real-world privacy-preserving applications. The research will be carried out in collaboration with other universities and industrial partners, offering opportunities for joint research and technology transfer.

This strategy will help improve diagnostic accuracy and clinical management of conditions such as FXTAS (Fragile X-Associated Tremor/Ataxia Syndrome is a neurodegenerative condition that causes tremor, ataxia, and cognitive problems in people with a mutation in the FMR1 gene, linked to the X chromosome). PM affects on average 1 in 200 women and 1 in 450 men. FXTAS is more common in males and usually begins after the age of 50. In particular, the research will focus on the application of new electronic power converter structures for the power supply of railway lines and electric vehicle charging infrastructures via AC and DC distribution systems in the presence of distributed generation, with particular attention to power quality aspects. The research will focus on topics related to the SSD BIOS-11/A , in particular the identification and characterization of new molecules with potential protective activity toward the mitochondrial damage caused by pathologically relevant conditions (i.e. oxidative stress, glycation damage, inflammation) with various in vitro cellular models and different investigative techniques. Specifically, the aim is to evaluate therole of such damage in cell death and de-functionalization processes, and the potential protective effects of the compounds in question. at the neuronal and muscular levels, aiming to develop innovative therapies for. This approach will enable a better understanding of the relevance of mitochondrial damage in pathological contexts such as neurodegenerative diseases and muscular disorders, and explore new therapeutic strategies.

The aim of the research is to develop knowledge and innovation for a broader application of nature-based solutions (NBS) aimed at improving integrated water resource management in agriculture and promoting the transition toward the principles of the circular economy and increasingly sustainable agricultural systems. The study will analyze, for various types of NBS, the hydraulic and hydrological functioning mechanisms, as well as the pollutant removal processes, in order to optimize their performance in terms of resource management, storage capacity, and natural purification for different types of contaminated waters, including domestic wastewater and agricultural runoff. Particular attention will be given to the potential for water reuse in agriculture, with the goal of producing effluents suitable for irrigation.

In particular, personalized and innovative precision nutritional approaches will be developed to improve human and environmental health,through systematic analysis of scientific literature and collection of observational and experimental data, the effects of personalized, predominantly plant-based diets on anthropometric and metabolic parameters, including body mass index, fat and lean mass distribution, lipid profile, and inflammatory markers, will be evaluated. The project also includes the development and evaluation of evidence-based nutrition education interventions aimed at improving nutritional skills and adherence to the Mediterranean diet. Scientific research and nutrition education aim to promote behavioral change, contributing to the prevention of chronic diseases and the spread of more sustainable food systems.

The research will concentrate on evaluating and enhancing soil functionality, which is pivotal for ensuring and preserving ecosystem functions. The objective of this research can be achieved by applying multifactorial soil quality indices to monitor and assess soil efficiency and resilience in different agricultural management systems. The application of the indices will also enable the creation of a database that can be used to apply this approach on a larger scale. The research associated with this assignment will focus on the identification and characterization of conjugative resistance and virulence plasmids in isolates from clinical, animal, and environmental settings. The presence of additional mobile elements, such as transposons, insertion sequences, and pathogenicity islands, will also be investigated. The research will involve the use of bioinformatics pipelines to analyze sequences obtained from PacBio and/or Nanopore sequencing, and the management of phylogenetic analyses comparing international plasmids, in order to identify the spread pathways of mobile elements globally and across different ecological niches

The project aims to perform precision measurements of W and Z vector-boson production in association with jets containing b-quarks in proton–proton collisions recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. The analysis will be carried out in different energy regimes, including those that are still largely unexplored, in order to test the predictions of Quantum Chromodynamics in scenarios characterized by multiple energy scales. The expected results will help refine phenomenological models, improve Monte Carlo simulations, and contribute to a better characterization of backgrounds in searches for new physics and in studies of the Higgs boson.

The morphological classification of the leafhopper vectors of Grapevine flavescence dorée phytoplasma is often complex and requires extensive entomological expertise. For this reason, the aim of this project is to apply identification protocols based on molecular methods, which represent a more reliable alternative tools for a correct species identification. The use of molecular markers, such as mitochondrial genes, ribosomal genes, or microsatellites, will allow for accurate discrimination of vector species even in the absence of diagnostic morphological characteristics. Sequencing of a portion of the mitochondrial region of the cytochrome oxidase I (COI) gene will be used to confirm suspected morphotypes and to genetically trace the vectors.Furthermore, the mechanisms regulating the interaction between the phytoplasma, the host plant, and the insect vector will be investigated using quantitative PCR (qPCR), gene sequencing, and transcriptomic analysis.

The ERC FIRSTSTEPS project investigates the earliest dispersals of Homo sapiens into southeastern Europe through an interdisciplinary approach that integrates scientific archaeology, paleoanthropology, zooarchaeology, and isotopic analyses. The selected candidate will contribute to confirming the initial presence of H. sapiens in the region, examining adaptive differences with Neanderthals, and exploring the biological and cultural factors that facilitated their expansion. The project also aims to identify potential interactions between Sapiens and Neanderthals. The project will also explore surrogate modeling approaches for the rapid approximation of solutions to complex differential problems. These models will serve as efficient and physically consistent proxies for traditional solvers, supporting tasks such as forward simulations, uncertainty quantification, and data assimilation. A lumped-parameter thermal model will be imple-mented for integrated system simulations, including transient anal-yses and assessment under critical operating conditions. Alternative thermal management strategies will be quantitatively evaluated in terms of performance, reliability, mass impact, and compatibility with application constraints. Young adulthood is a particularly high-risk period for the emergence of major depressive disorder (MDD), and, without proper treatment, many will develop chronic and recurrent courses. Efforts to advance effective prevention strategies are hindered by our relatively limited understanding of MDD pathophysiology. With this project, I rely on advanced methods from multiple disciplines (e.g., psychophysiology, clinical psychology, neuroscience) to disentangle social reward processing in the lab and in real-life as a vulnerability factor for MDD. The overall objective is to typify youths vulnerable to psychopathology and thus provide a critical step in the prevention of mental disorders.

The IMPACT–AML project was born with the goal of integrating advanced clinical trials and personalized medicine to build an inclusive regulatory framework, capable of involving patients with relapsed or refractory acute myeloid leukemia in multicenter and international clinical studies, promoting collaboration among academic, clinical, and scientific institutions. This project enhances Earth observation data cubes by improving two key processes: imagecoregistration and fuzzy classification. Accurate data cubes require precise spatial alignment and reliableland-cover classification under uncertainty. The project develops a robust coregistration workflow formulti-sensor and multi-temporal imagery and implements fuzzy classification methods to generate softland-cover maps and uncertainty metrics. Both modules are integrated into an analysis-ready data cubeusing open standards. Methods include feature- and intensity-based alignment, fuzzy c-means, rule-based logic, and validation through case studies on land-use and environmental dynamics. Expectedoutcomes include high-accuracy aligned datasets, a functional fuzzy classification module, and aprototype data cube that improves monitoring, change detection, and geospatial decision-making.

This project investigates how diabetes-associated systemic inflammation may anticipate or accelerate Alzheimer’s disease progression in Tg2576 mice, which develop APP/Aß accumulation and cognitive decline. Early induction of type 1 or type 2 diabetes will allow assessment of the impact of hyperglycemia and peripheral inflammation on neuroinflammation, amyloid metabolism, and neuronal vulnerability. Within PRIN Task 1.2, the work will establish a murine AD-diabetes comorbidity model and generate metabolic and cognitive datasets. The candidate will work on the GIGANU project, which extends the ENUBET monitored neutrinobeam concept by enabling event-by-event identification of parent pions and forward muons from twobody decays. This requires state-of-the-art silicon trackers with extreme time resolution, high spatial granularity, and operation in high-fluence environments with magnetic fields. The candidate will simulate particle transport in these conditions using and extending the ENUBET beamline model, and will determine the minimal detector requirements—surface, timing, and spatial resolution—to isolate individual decays with an acceptable level of random coincidences, taking into account realistic constraints for the silicon-detector trackers under study.

As microelectronic technologies advance, power conversion and management circuits are critical elements in system-on-chip devices. Conventional solutions rely on inductors that are difficult to integrate on-chip, motivating interest in alternative inductor-free or integrable architectures. Switched-capacitor converters and hybrid topologies based on switched LC resonators, including resonant and multi-resonant schemes, are promising for integrated implementations but often suffer from reduced efficiency when operating away from nominal conditions. This research aims to develop novel circuit topologies and control strategies for integrated power converters in Smart Power technologies, with a focus on resonant-based solutions, to improve efficiency over wide operating ranges. Research activities include the study of novel power-conversion architectures, the design and experimental characterization of converters in BCD technology.

The research is carried out within the framework of the “BE PROUD” Project, aimed at the precision measurement, using innovative analysis techniques, of the production of an electroweak W or Z boson in association with b-jets in proton–proton collisions at the LHC, using data from the ATLAS experiment. These measurements improve the understanding of perturbative QCD in the Standard Model, are sensitive to the proton PDFs, and constitute a valuable input for improving the Monte Carlo simulations used to estimate these backgrounds in Higgs boson analyses and searches for New Physics. The primary objective of the research is the development of the analysis for the measurement of the cross section of the W+b-jets production process. The holder of the research position will be responsible for developing the code for event selection, will support activities for background estimation and unfolding, and will participate in the ongoing activities on the study of Z+b-jets production

Over the past decade, significant research has been conducted on the mechanisms of light harvesting and energy dissipation to enhance the efficiency and broaden the applicability of algal biotechnology. However, manipulation of light-harvesting complex (LHC) gene products has been limited by the scarcity of knowledge regarding structure–function relationships. In this project, selected gene products will be characterized in detail. In particular, spectroscopic techniques will be applied to the study of purified LHCII protein variants, including state-of-the-art steady-state absorption/fluorescence spectroscopy and spectral deconvolution, transient absorption spectroscopy, and fluorescence lifetime spectroscopy. Structural modifications that give rise to specific spectroscopic features will be analyzed by (i) molecular modelling and (ii) direct structural analysis by cryo-EM.

Studying the ecology of these insects in their new areas is crucial to assessing their establishment, which must be encouraged for the two biological control agents, and contained for the two pests. This project will evaluate the habitat and ecological preferences, the life cycle in the new area, the reproductive capacity, and the population dynamics of the four aforementioned insects.

This activity is part of the abovEF project, funded by the FIS2 program. A central element is the construction of an innovative high-resolution spectrometer operating in the far-UV region. The instrument's design depends critically on the choice of a two-dimensional detector and, in particular, on the precision with which it records the impact position of the photons. The collaborator will carry out measurements aimed at characterizing the response of a CCD detector for UV radiation in the 20–40 eV range, corresponding to the expected operating values for the abovEF instrument under development. Analysis of the detector's response serves to optimize the spectrometer's optical design. A helium plasma discharge source and a liquid nitrogen-cooled CCD, both already available, will be used. Analysis of experimental data and comparison with numerical simulation results will be an integral part of the assignment

This project will evaluate the activity of two non-native parasitoid species, Ganaspis kimorum and Leptopilina japonica, as biological control agents for Drosophila suzukii in the Veneto Region. For G. kimorum, its potential for use in inondative method will be investigated at two sites already authorized for parasitoid release. For L. japonica, the use of augmentation will be studied as a farm tool (economical and easy to set up) useful for managing crop residues and simultaneously promoting parasitoid growth.
