Criminal networks differ from the connectivity structures commonly studied in science, since no other network possesses the particular forms of incompleteness and complexity found in criminal networks. These issues hinder progress in the study of network data available in criminology. The project aims to address this gap through the development of statistical methods and models capable of turning these issues into new opportunities. The researcher will be responsible for the development, implementation, and theoretical study of innovative statistical models (mainly stochastic block models and latent space models) for the analysis of complex criminal networks (multilayer, multiplex, dynamic). They will also be responsible for writing scientific articles and will present the research findings at various conferences.

The WeSET project examines collective bargaining between employees and employers in France through textual analysis of collective agreements and targeted surveys tracking negotiation processes within firms. Using quasi-experimental methods, it investigates how the identity of representatives affects negotiation outcomes and overall efficiency. At the same time, it leverages online job platform data to study wage setting for new hires in France and Sweden, combining administrative records with high-frequency firm and worker surveys to analyze individual bargaining mechanisms and test bargaining theories through informational experiments. The Post-doctoral Researcher will conduct predominantly empirical economic analyses, inspired by small-scale theoretical models, and will be involved in survey design and collection, field experiment implementation, and microeconometric analysis of large administrative datasets, including unstructured text data.

The aim of this project is to develop and validate TRN-228 (cebranopadol), a novel MOP/NOP dual receptor agonist, as a safer and more effective treatment for opioid use disorder (OUD). Unlike current OUD therapies that target only MOP receptors, cebranopadol's dual mechanism has shown promise in reducing abuse potential, dependence, and respiratory depression. The project includes nonclinical and clinical studies aimed at demonstrating the therapeutic potential and safety profile of TRN-228 compared to current standard treatments. The research aims to investigate the uses of generative artificial intelligence (genAI) in the context of innovation processes. After an analysis of the literature on the topic, the research involves the empirical analysis of business cases, through focus groups and direct interviews with companies in the Insubric territory and, more generally, in Italy and Switzerland. At the end of the work, advantages and limitations of using genAI in innovation processes will be highlighted. The selected researcher will support the Excellence Project 2023–27, working closely with the Competence Centre on Antifragile Territories (CRAFT). A research program will be developed that positions architectural and urban projects as platforms for dialogue, fostering collaboration among stakeholders with diverse expertise. The integration of Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) with classical data transmission in Passive Optical Networks (PON), without the use of dedicated dark fibers, presents a complex yet necessary challenge for ensuring data security. The intrinsic constraints of PONs make the coexistence of quantum and classical channels particularly demanding. The proposed research project involves a comparative analysis of existing and emerging QKD technologies to identify solutions compatible with network characteristics. The development of a simulation tool will be required to identify optimal spectral windows for such coexistence, maximizing QKD performance while ensuring practical feasibility. The tool will be validated through experimental activities to define the key parameters of the point-to-multipoint architecture from both classical and quantum perspectives.

The objective of the research program is to develop and implement nonlinear finite element codes based on Finite Elements FEs specifically conceived for the structural analysis of double curvature historical masonry constructions reinforced with FRCM (Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Matrix). The project aims, in particular, to deepen the understanding of the role played by stereotomy in determining the static behavior. At the same time, the research program includes a modeling of the interface behaviors among the various materials (masonry, cementitious matrix, and fibrous reinforcement), with the goal of identifying phenomenological constitutive laws that can be directly implemented in the code. The developed software should be versatile and robust, suitable for both advanced research and engineering applications, thanks to a parametrized architecture and a graphical user interface (GUI), promoting direct interaction between input data and analysis.

The research program is part of the FIS2 KLARA – Kinetics of Lava Flows Crystallization project (01.10.2025–30.09.2028; FIS-2023-03129), aimed at studying variations in lava flow viscosity caused by crystallization and degassing, through field surveys, petrological analyses, laboratory experiments, and numerical modeling. Lavas with compositions ranging from primitive to evolved will be analyzed using geochemical and petrographic techniques; crystallization will be investigated by high-temperature X-ray microtomography under variable cooling rates and volatile contents. The resulting data will be used to model lava viscosity and rheological evolution in relation to composition, cooling, crystallization, and bubble growth. The selected researcher should have GIS expertise to map lava field morphologies, conduct multi-scale petrographic and petrological analyses, and reconstruct textures and compositions through quantitative 2D image analysis.

The aim of this project is to address the unmet needs of upper limb amputees through the design and development of a biomimetic prosthetic arm with an intuitive control of elbow, wrist and hand, equipped with a sensory feedback system that will make the prosthesis easier to use and more integrated with the patient's body.The new concept to be developed will be a modular prosthetic arm, suitable for all levels of upper limb amputation. Thanks to its ease of use, it could lead to an increase in the cohort of patients currently using a prosthesis, significantly improving the independence in activities of daily living of upper limb amputees.The project will consist of a fundamental research phase, followed by an industrial research phase and finally an industrial development phase, which may overlap at certain times, through instrumental motion analysis and clinical tests

The research program focuses on the development of detailed models of neurons and networks of the cerebellum. These models are reaching maturity to simulate a set of computational properties, with the aim of determining the neural basis of the physiological and pathological functioning of circuits. In this project, we will consider the computational properties of the cerebellar cortex, using metrics of computational neuroscience, reconstructing and simulating multicompartment and point-neuron models of the cerebellar circuit. Specific alterations will be inserted to reproduce pathological states with cerebellar involvement (e.g. autism, ataxia). The validations will be based on experimental data on mice, from which local field potentials and spiking patterns can be extracted. The objective of the project is to develop hybrid organic-inorganic soft matter that can respond to electrochemical and optical stimuli. The study comprises the synthesis of monolayer protected gold nanoparticles and their characterization via NMR spectroscopy, DLS, TEM, TGA and other techniques. The electrochemical properties will be studied using cyclic voltammetry, and photoelectron spectroscopy. Dissipative self-assembly of the nanoparticles will be studied using absorbance and fluorescence spectroscopy and kinetic models will be developed to describe the process. Photoinduced self-assembly will be studied using photosensitizers able to reduce functional moieties present in the monolayer. Neuromorphic devices will be developed by casting the material on a multielectrode array and monitor changes in the electrical output upon irradiation.

Diffuse midline gliomas (DMG) are highly aggressive pediatric brain tumors marked by elevated expression of CD147, a glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin superfamily. Due to their infiltrative nature and localization within the brainstem, DMGs are typically unresectable. Current therapeutic options are limited to radiotherapy (RT), alone or combined with chemotherapy, but efficacy remains poor. Targeting CD147 may offer a promising alternative strategy. The employee will: i) perform molecular docking campaigns using available crystallographic data of CD147; ii) evaluate binding poses through protein-ligand interaction fingerprints, docking scores, and MM-GBSA binding free energy calculations; iii) test selected compounds in vitro using standard cell-based assays on DMG cell lines.

The research aims to develop, integrate, and validate control technologies for the seismic retrofitting of buildings and bridges, to reduce seismic demand and damage and improve operational continuity. The candidate's research activity will be part of the field of chemical reaction engineering and will involve the development and refinement of kinetic mechanisms for the modeling of thermochemical processes. Specifically, the candidate will be expected to propose and validate detailed or semi-detailed kinetic schemes for the pyrolysis, oxidation, and combustion of renewable fuels, such as e-fuels (methanol, ammonia, oxymethylene ethers, etc.), biomass, waste, or traditional fuels used in innovative applications, such as methane pyrolysis for the production of nanocarbon particles. The activity will require the use of quantum mechanical theoretical methods, while also relying on similarity and analogy rules to describe the behavior of high molecular weight compounds, ultimately leading to the definition of complete and reliable mechanisms
