“Design and Synthesis of Small Molecules Targeting Innovative Molecular Targets in Chemotherapy”
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
03/CHEM-07 - Medicinal, Toxicological, Nutraceutical-Food, Fermentation And Health And Wellbeing Products Chemistry
Description
The research activity will focus on the design, synthesis, and analysis of small molecules active against innovative molecular targets in the field of chemotherapy.Part of the project will be devoted to the identification of ligands for non-coding RNAs, which represent emerging targets alternative to classical proteins. The selective modulation of RNA could open new therapeutic perspectives by interfering with key processes involved in tumor progression and drug resistance. The project falls within the scientific scope of the CHEM-07/A sector and includes the following activities: selection of “druggable” targets with high therapeutic impact; design and synthesis of new chemical entities; planning and optimization of synthetic processes using traditional and innovative methodologies; analytical characterization of the compounds; preliminary evaluation of compound/target interactions using biophysical techniques; definition of structure–activity relationships
