BIOS-06/A - A synaptic mechanogenetic technology to repair brain connectivity - CUP: J93C22002400006
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
05/BIOS-06 - Physiology
Description
The project aims to develop a mechanogenetic technology to restore functional connectivity in brain circuits, with potential therapeutic applications in highly prevalent neurological disorders that are resistant to current treatments.Mechanogenetics combines molecular targeting with non-invasive magnetic stimulation, enabling selective control of neuronal activity without the use of implantable devices. However, current applications are limited by insufficient spatial resolution and challenges related to in vivo implementation. The project proposes a novel platform based on biocompatible magnetic nanoparticles and synaptic mechanosensors designed to integrate into specific synaptic connections and respond to focused magnetic fields. By modulating synaptic signaling pathways, this approach aims to induce lasting changes in the functional organization of neural networks. The technology will be validated in mouse models of neurological disorders.
