In Situ Analysis of Electrode Oxidation States in Aqueous Solution via Near-Ambient Pressure X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (NAP-XPS) - 2026_CDR_DFIS_1
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
02/PHYS-03 - Experimental Physics Of Matter And Applications
Description
This project investigates real-time changes in the oxidation states of electrodes in aqueous solution during electrochemical reactions, using Near-Ambient Pressure X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (NAP-XPS). The technique allows surface analysis at the meniscus—between the immersed and exposed electrode zones—where key redox processes occur. Controlled potentials and a custom electrochemical cell will enable monitoring of chemical changes under realistic conditions. The study will focus on materials such as transition metal oxides, aiming to reveal redox mechanisms and support the design of more efficient electrodes for energy applications.
