The research position will be integrated within the ERC project "Communication in Ancient Anatolia". The researcher will study three ancient text corpora (Lydian, Hieroglyphic Luwian and Phrygian) in conjunction with the other team members, and relate the findings to external text sources, to address the question of narrative bias and its motivation. This is to be analyzed in its cultural and historical background, with a focus on cultural differences in external and internal voices. Given the fragmentary text corpora studied, archaeological data needs to be likewise considered. Besides knowledge of the three relevant Anatolian languages, knowledge of Akkadian and Greek, as well as a degree in Ancient History and a background in Archaeology is required. The successful candidate is required to work with the project internal database structure and co-organize events and contribute to their publication, as well as to produce to joint and individual published work, as per annual goals.
