Health and Medicine in Samnite Times: a Multidisciplinary Approach integrating Material and Bibliographic Sources
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
06/MEDS-02 - Experimental Medicine, Pathophysiology And Clinical Pathology
Description
The research program focuses on the study of health and disease in the Samnite period through a multidisciplinary approach that integrates physical evidence, bioarchaeological data, and historical and bibliographic sources. The contract holder will be involved in osteoanthropological and paleopathological analyses of human skeletal remains from Samnite contexts, in reconstructing the health profile of the communities, and in identifying the main traumatic, degenerative, infectious, and metabolic pathologies. Biological data will be integrated with archaeological evidence (therapeutic sanctuaries, surgical instruments, anatomical votive offerings) and the analysis of ancient literary sources. The goal is to contribute to the reconstruction of pre-Roman medicine in Italic Italy and to the valorization of the Samnite anthropological heritage, which has not yet been adequately analyzed.
