BIODENCITY: Assessing biodiversity and urban density - 2026_CDR_DASTU_1
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
08/CEAR-12 - Urban And Landscape Planning And Design
Description
The research aims to develop an advanced typology of dense urban forms and green infrastructure through geospatial analysis and statistical clustering techniques. The goal is to understand how different configurations of built density and urban green spaces influence biodiversity, adopting a systemic and multi-scale approach. To this end, high-resolution geospatial datasets from global and European sources will be used to construct neighborhood-scale indicators, defined within a 500-meter walking radius, which ensures comparability between cities. The indicators will be organized into three key dimensions for urban biodiversity: ecological context, anthropogenic elements, and natural components. On this basis, unsupervised learning methods will be applied to classify neighborhoods into urban types that describe the interactions between density, greenery, and habitat quality.
