Evaluation of antibiofilm activity of DNA-targeting nanoparticles
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
06/MEDS-03 - Microbiology And Clinical Microbiology
Description
Antimicrobial resistance and chronic infections threaten global health. Bacterial biofilms are a major cause of treatment failure, infection recurrence, and acquired resistance. To date effective eradication biofilms strategies remain lacking. The BactEradix project aims to fill this gap by developing antimicrobial nanomaterials targeting biofilm Z-DNA and bacterial genomic DNA to eradicate biofilm-associated mucosal infections. In this context, the researcher will evaluate the antibiofilm activity of Z-DNA-targeting artificial oligonucleotides and lipid nanoparticles functionalized with these oligonucleotides, assess the antimicrobial activity of antigene oligonucleotides, and investigate the biofilm eradication efficacy of functionalized lipid nanoparticles with both Z-DNA-targeting and antigene oligonucleotides
