Description
GECO studies the impact of urban regeneration projects on multidimensional inequality at the neighbourhood level in Milan. Regeneration can increase housing prices, displace low-income residents to cheaper areas, and attract more affluent households, thereby reshaping the socio-demographic composition, access to services, and opportunities. The project collects novel neighbourhood-level data on macro and micro accessibility to services and amenities, as well as perceptions of inclusion and opportunities, and integrates them with administrative economic, demographic, and political data to construct detailed measures of inequality. It examines the socio-economic and political implications of gentrification and develops tools to help policymakers monitor and mitigate unequal effects. The researcher will design the Milan Social Survey questionnaire, oversee survey management, and conduct integrated empirical analyses.
