Ultrafast Observation and Quantum Control of Wavepacket Dynamics at Conical Intersections - 2026_CDR_DFIS_6
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
02/PHYS-03 - Experimental Physics Of Matter And Applications
Description
The research program will develop and apply advanced ultrafast spectroscopic tools to directly track molecular wavepacket (WP) dynamics at conical intersections (CIs). The fellow will build and optimise ultrabroadband transient absorption (IR–UV) setups with few-femtosecond resolution and high sensitivity. These tools will then be applied to prototypical photoactive systems (e.g., retinal analogues, photoswitches) to monitor WP evolution approaching and leaving the CI, capturing energy gap collapse and recovery. The fellow will also participate to time resolved X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) experiments.Experimental results will be combined with theoretical input to extract electronic and nuclear dynamics with chemical specificity.A key goal is to provide the first comprehensive, multi-spectral “molecular movie” of CI-driven dynamics across IR to XUV regimes.
