Photonic and optical interferometric systems for sensors and spectroscopy aimed at applications in metrology, environmental science, engineering, geophysics, chemistry and biomedicine
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
02/PHYS-03 - Experimental Physics Of Matter And Applications
Description
the study of theoretical models describing radiation-matter interaction in dielectric media of known composition, such as silica or non-linear crystals, and their optical characterization in the laboratory. materials will be examined with particular focus on the experimental side, by virtue of their light transmission and scattering properties. various types of fiber optic systems in a resonant configuration, excited by near-infrared lasers, will be examined to trigger stimulated processes and possibly observe the non-linear response accompanied by radiation generation in this regime. To this end, feedback-controlled optoelectronic schemes and low-noise signal acquisition systems in homodyne and heterodyne detection will be implemented to investigate the intrinsic properties of the generated electromagnetic spectrum (e.g., correlation, noise, etc.), as well as for the measurement of environmental physical parameters or fundamental physical quantities
