Carbon dioxide-hydrocarbon blends for electric vehicles air conditioning systems - 2026_CDR_DENG_9
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
09/IIND-07 - Thermal Sciences, Energy Technology, Building Physics And Nuclear Engineering
Description
The research program aims to investigate carbon dioxide–hydrocarbon blends as viable, long-term, low-GWP alternatives to the refrigerants currently used in the vehicle air-conditioning systems. The research program consists of two phases. In the first phase, a mathematical model will be developed to simulate the operation of vapor compression systems as a function of the working fluid, the design and functional characteristics of the components, and the operating conditions. This tool will be used to identify the most promising compositions of carbon dioxide–hydrocarbon mixtures. In the second phase, an experimental test rig reproducing the air-conditioning system of an electric vehicle will be designed and built. It will be used to carry out experimental test campaigns on the mixtures identified through the aforementioned computational model.
