Description
The project will investigate the etymological development and phonetic and phonological changes of Khotanese within the broader history of the Iranian languages, from Proto-Indo-Iranian to the attested stages. The analysis, adopting a diachronic and variationist approach, aims to reconstruct the development of phonological structures and the dynamics of innovation and conservation. Particular attention will be devoted to the relationship between language change and internal variation, through the examination of textual variants and their relevance for the classification and periodisation of the language. The candidate will also contribute to the TEI encoding of Khotanese texts and to the management of data within an SQL database as part of the project’s digital archive.
