Description
The research project on which the researcher will be employed will involve studying the rumen microbiota through DNA extraction and sequencing of 16S and 18S taxonomic genes using an Illumina platform to define total and active microbiomes. The different microbial groups will also be determined in the samples using SYBR green rtPCR assays. Primers used for PCR amplification of total bacteria, total fungi, methanogenic archaea, and the main cellulolytic, amylolytic, and proteolytic bacteria will be characterized. Target gene quantification will be performed on microbial RNA using a Step One apparatus. Statistical analysis will follow to examine average milk production and composition, as well as blood metabolites.In addition, the project will also include studying the biological and functional characteristics of RETs in spinning water using human cellular models.
