Effect of light polarisation on microalgal phototaxis

The postdoc will be responsible for designing an experimental setup to investigate how the polarisation properties of light influence microalgal movement. In particular, the system must allow for control over light polarisation to create two-dimensional patterns with spatially varying polarisation, while simultaneously recording the motion of the algae in order to analyse their trajectories and understand the influence of light on their behaviour.

Selection process

The selection process includes an assessment of qualifications worth up to 50 points, and an interview worth up to 50 points. The interview will aim to evaluate the relevance, originality, and methodological consistency between the research directions emerging from each candidate’s academic and professional background, qualifications, and scientific publications, and the objectives of the research project described in the call. Proficiency in English will also be assessed. PhD in Physical, Chemical and Materials Sciences and Technologies. Experience in the development of optical setups is required, with particular focus on light polarisation control.
