Synthesis of Corey Lactone intermediates

Description
Organic peroxides, used in Bayer–Villigerreactions to convert ketones into esters orlactones, are liquid or solid organic substancesthat contain the bivalent –O–O– structure andcan therefore be considered derivatives ofhydrogen peroxide. Organic peroxides arethermally unstable substances or mixtures thatcan undergo a self-accelerating exothermicdecomposition. In addition, some are prone toexplosive decomposition, are sensitive to shockand friction, and react dangerously uponcontact with other substances. Corey’s lactone,a key intermediate in the production of antiglaucomadrugs, is in fact prepared by thereaction of an appropriate ketone with anorganic peroxide.
