To produce enough food for a growing world population in a sustainable and inclusive manner whileresponding to increased demand for renewable materials, strengthening resilience to climate change andrespecting planetary boundaries is the major societal challenge of the 21st century. In this context, the demandfor renewable biomass sources for transforming the fossil economy to a bioeconomy is expected to grow andresidues/ waste biomass resources will not suffice to satisfy this demand. New biomass sources need to befound which have low or no Indirect land Use (iLUC) effects.
