Generation and detection of spin and orbital current in semiconductor-based nanostructures - 2026_IDR_DFIS_1
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
02/PHYS-03 - Experimental Physics Of Matter And Applications
Description
The research program focuses on the generation and measurement of angular momentum currents, both spin and orbital. In group-IV semiconductors, particularly Ge, it is possible to generate orbital and spin angular momentum currents through the optical orientation technique. The research activities that the candidate will undertake are based on the study of detectors for these currents, which generally rely on metallic materials with strong spin–orbit coupling, as well as on the design and optimization of an experimental setup for confocal microscopy, used to generate such currents in a localized manner. It will be necessary to develop models for the diffusion of these currents, including all diffusion phenomena in semiconductors, and to experimentally evaluate the efficiency of the various detectors, both for spin currents and for orbital angular momentum currents.
