Innovative capacitive sensor-based wearable technologies - 2026_IDR_DEIB_5
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
09/IBIO-01 - Bioengineering
Description
This project aims to develop next-generation capacitive sensors seamlessly integrated into eyewear for unobtrusive monitoring of facial muscle activity and emotional expression. Building on advances in flexible and nanostructured materials, the work will design miniaturized transducers capable of detecting subtle skin and muscle displacements without direct contact or conductive gels. A microcontroller-based acquisition platform will be implemented to characterize sensor performance in terms of sensitivity, stability, and robustness to motion artifacts. The resulting smart eyewear prototype will enable real-time, privacy-preserving facial expression recognition with potential applications in emotion-aware human–computer interfaces, assistive technologies, and mental health monitoring.
