Development of AI and automated control techniques for the design and deployment of robotic missions for water pollution monitoring

Position: Research appointment (pre-doc) Institute: Uni. Verona
Posted on: 02/02/2026 Deadline: 23/02/2026

Scientific-Disciplinary Group

09/IINF-05 - Information Processing Systems

Description

The researcher will develop and integrate artificial intelligence techniques and automatic controls for an aquatic surface drone, with the aim of mapping pollutants in a water basin using continuous reading probes. The techniques will first be validated in a robotic simulation environment (to be developed during the project) and then tested on a physical drone available at the university (and possibly at a project partner company). Specifically, the main artificial intelligence and control techniques used will be based on reinforcement learning paradigms, state estimation and prediction, and constrained optimal planning.
