The recovery of ladle furnace slags from secondary metallurgy: analysis of environmental aspects (RE-WHITE project)
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
08/CEAR-02 - Sanitary And Environmental Engineering, Excavation Engineering And Safety, Raw Materials Engineering, Hydrocarbons And Underground Fluids
Description
The management of ladle furnace slags (LFS) is a critical issue for steelworks due to the high costs of disposal. The research project aims to develop innovative solutions for the treatment and reuse of LFS, both within furnace and in other sectors, promoting a virtuous industrial cycle and sustainable circular symbiosis practices. The activities to be carried out by the collaborator are: -the technical and environmental characterization of LFS from two steelworks in Brescia, both raw and after two treatment processes;-the environmental analysis of the use of LFS in construction materials (cement – as a substitute for clinker and in blended cements – and concrete);-bibliographic and experimental study of innovative uses of LFS for the removal of pollutants from water and the industrial waste stabilization; -environmental assessment of recovery alternatives by means leaching testing, ecotoxicity and LCA analysis
