Advanced numerical modeling of masonry structures subjected to horizontal loads - 2026_IDR_DABC_2
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
08/CEAR-06 - Mechanics Of Solids And Structures
Description
The research program is subdivided in three tasks: design, implementation, and validation of advanced numerical models for the nonlinear and limit analysis of existing masonry structures (corner walls, vaults, building aggregates, churches, towers, etc.) subjected to horizontal loads, for instance seismic ones. Two numerical methods are preferred: 1) limit analysis (associated and non-associated) combined with suitable finite element discretization, where masonry is modeled by means of both heterogeneous and homogenized approaches; 2) nonlinear static analysis, carried out through both heterogeneous and homogeneous modeling, in which the material is assumed to be either totally unable to withstand tensile stresses (NTM) or poorly resistant in tension and exhibiting a post-peak softening behavior. Model validation is planned through experimental tests on in-scale walls assembled on a tilting table, in which blocks are produced using additive manufacturing.
