Spinal+: AI-Powered Spinal Organoid for Sensory-Motor Recovery - 2026_IDR_DEIB_10
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
09/IBIO-01 - Bioengineering
Description
Spinal+ is a project aimed at developing a bioengineered, implantable spinal organoid for the treatment of traumatic injuries and neurodegenerative disorders of the spinal cord. The approach integrates autologous induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and nanoelectronics to restore neural signal transmission and compromised sensorimotor functions. By combining advanced biology, nanoelectronics, and artificial intelligence, Spinal+ seeks to significantly improve patients’ quality of life. The contribution of POLIMI focuses on integrating this technology with the development, optimization, and validation of an AI-assisted computational platform, based on advanced algorithms, capable of interpreting electrophysiological signals generated by the Spinal+ system.
