Physiological optimisation of hydroponic systems for forage production under controlled conditions.
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
05/BIOS-02 - Plant Physiology
Description
The project investigates hydroponic systems for forage production with a focus on plant physiology during germination and growth under controlled conditions, aiming to optimise yield, resource-use efficiency, and biomass quality. Cultivation protocols (species/genotype, sowing density, nutrient solution composition and pH/EC, root-zone oxygenation, photoperiod and light intensity/spectrum, temperature, humidity/VPD, and harvest timing) will be compared in relation to germination kinetics, root and shoot development, growth rate, and production stability. Biomass will be characterised through key physiological and biochemical indicators, integrated with nutritional traits and, when relevant, hygienic quality. The duties include experimental design, on-system monitoring and sampling, laboratory and/or NIR analyses, data management and statistical processing, interpretation of results, and preparation of reports and publications.
