The FIS 2 NOMAD project investigates the literary and artistic representation of the women ofthe steppes – from the Amazons to nomadic queens and warriors rooted in historical figures,via fictional characters – across Europe and Asia from the nineteenth century to the presentday. It examines how their perception has changed as a result of translations, specialistscholarship, and feminist claims.

The candidate will be required to possess linguistic and literary skills enabling them to workacross the cultures of Western Europe (francophone, anglophone, and italophone areas) andto investigate the relationship between textual and iconographic representation. Experience incollaborative research teams will be valued.
