Hyporheic Solute Transport: Incomplete Mixing - 2026_IDR_DICA_7
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
08/CEAR-01 - Hydraulics, Hydrology, Hydraulic And Maritime Engineering
Description
The research focuses on the transport dynamics of dissolved solutes within the hyporheic zone, with particular emphasis on solute mixing and the role of incomplete mixing. While incomplete solute mixing has been widely documented in geological porous media such as aquifers, its emergence and relevance in the porous hyporheic zone remain poorly understood. The main objective is to identify the hydrodynamic and hydrogeological conditions under which incomplete mixing arises in the hyporheic zone. Achieving this goal will improve the conceptual and mathematical modeling of hyporheic solute transport and its implications for reactive solutes and overall river corridor functioning. The research adopts an experimental approach, involving the development of novel setups to quantify solute mixing dynamics in porous media at the interface with a free-flow domain.
