Biophysical Modeling of Ultrasound–Neuron Electromechanical Coupling - 2026_IDR_DEIB_6
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
09/IBIO-01 - Bioengineering
Description
The research will focus on the development of biophysical single-neuron models that explicitly couple ultrasound-induced membrane mechanics with neuronal electrophysiology. The research fellow will implement and extend conductance-based neuron models in established simulation environments such as NEURON or ARBOR, integrating mechanical variables (e.g. membrane tension and deformation) into ion-channel gating dynamics. The activity will enable the simulation of how focused ultrasound modulates neuronal excitability at the cellular level, providing a mechanistic link between membrane biophysics and electrical activity.
