Active and Passive Acoustic Monitoring for Leak Detection and Localization in Gas Distribution Networks - 2026_IDR_DEIB_27
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
09/IINF-03 - Telecommunications
Description
The research program aims at the development and validation of non-invasive acoustic monitoring methodologies, based on both active and passive techniques, for leak detection and localization in natural gas distribution networks. The activity is carried out within the framework of the 404 RetiPiù meno CO2 project and builds upon previous work on acoustic wave propagation modeling and experimental analysis in low-pressure gas pipelines. In particular, physics-based 1D models of acoustic propagation in branched pipeline networks will be further developed and refined, including thermo-viscous attenuation effects, reflection and transmission phenomena at junctions and geometric discontinuities, and the interaction between propagating waves and defects or leakages.
