Study of microbial communities in environmental matrices
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
05/BIOS-15 - Microbiology
Description
This research program is part of the LucAS (Lucania Ambiente Salute) project, which aims to continuously and accurately monitor environmental matrices (air, water, soil) and rigorously assess ecosystems and the health of resident populations. Studying the taxonomic diversity of microbial communities in potentially polluted ecosystems will allow us to correlate microbial composition and dynamics with pollution factors and identify microbial groups to use as biotargets to determine ecosystem quality. Analyzing the metabolic function of the microbiota, correlated with taxonomic studies, will allow us to evaluate metabolic pathways linked to potential pollutants, observe the ability of microbial communities to utilize different substrates, and identify changes in metabolic activity in response to environmental factors.
