Scientific-Disciplinary Group

05/BIOS-01 - Botany, 05/BIOS-11 - Pharmacology

Description

The research program is focused on the study of natural substances with the aim of evaluating their protective potential against the toxic effects of contaminants, particularly those of environmental origin. The research activity aims to identify and understand the mechanisms through which these bioactive compounds can counteract or reduce cellular and molecular damage induced by potentially harmful substances. Through experimental studies and the use of appropriate biological models, the effects of these natural substances on the main processes involved in the response to toxic effects are analyzed, such as oxidative stress and/or inflammation and alterations of cellular defense systems. Particular attention is devoted to identifying the molecular and biochemical mechanisms through which these natural compounds can modulate the damage induced by contaminants.
