Description

The aim of this project is to design new structure-preserving space-time finite element schemes of the DG/CG type for hyperbolic systems of conservation laws that by construction satisfy the following structural properties of the governing equations: i) the new methods must be conservative for mass, momentum and total energy ii) the new methods must be provably compatible with the second law of thermodynamics (entropy inequality) iii) the new methods must maintain the divergence-free condition of the magnetic field in the Maxwell and MHD equations, as well as the curl-free condition of the inverse deformation gradient in nonlinear hyperelastic solid mechanics exactly also at the discrete level.
