Description

The project integrates Earth Observation and geospatial data for urban and suburban monitoring and planning, with a focus on land cover maps and Local Climate Zones (LCZ). For the latter aspect, it also uses high-resolution thermal products as proxies for future satellite missions. The project explores the use of Geospatial Foundation Models and geospatial embeddings to improve the estimation and updating of maps through advanced machine learning techniques, adapting models pre-trained on large volumes of Earth Observation data to different environmental contexts and spatial scales.Candidates are expected to have expertise in Earth Observation, geospatial data, open-source GIS and webGIS tools, land cover (and LCZ) mapping, machine learning and deep learning applications, including foundational knowledge of Geospatial Foundation Models.
