Just Transitions from Fossil Fuels and Territorial Alternatives to Green Colonialism
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
11/GEOG-01 - Geography
Description
The IR critically examines the "Just Transition" from fossil fuels din different part of the world (World Atlas approach and the Amazon), warning against its co-optation by green colonialism. While the phase-out of hydrocarbons is urgent, it must not be replaced by new extractive frontiers. The research will focus how the surge in transition minerals and the expansion of agribusiness commodities (specifically palm oil) reproduce colonial patterns of land grabbing and dispossession. Territorial alternatives rooted in indigenous sovereignty and the "Agroecological Multitudes" should be compared. The truly just transition requires dismantling the extractivist logic that sacrifices ecosystems (as in the Amazon) for global "green" markets, moving instead toward regenerative, locally-governed futures
