Advanced Numerical Modelling of Masonry Structures for Seismic Structural Health Monitoring Using Smart Materials
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
08/CEAR-07 - Structural Analysis And Design
Description
The researcher will contribute to the “SMS-SAFEST” FIS project through numerical modelling of masonry structures with smart bricks and mortar. They will support numerical validation on small-scale assemblies (Task 2.4), assessing the damage-detection capability of the developed materials. The main activity will focus on large-scale modelling (Task 2.9), developing models representative of real constructions. Nonlinear pushover and incremental dynamic analyses will simulate seismic response at increasing intensities and evaluate the effectiveness of smart materials at key limit states. The researcher will also support the design of full-scale benchmark specimens (Task 3.3), defining geometry, loading, and sensor placement, including in- and out-of-plane mechanisms. Pre-test simulations (Task 3.5) will anticipate failure modes and optimize material distribution for structural health monitoring.
