Description

Respiratory virus infections represent a major public health problem, with significant clinical, economic, and social consequences. This impact arises from the intrinsic ability of some viruses, and their variants, to interact with intracellular metabolic pathways of various cell types, activating an inflammatory cascade that can lead to serious systemic complications, including those affecting the central nervous system. To date, potential correlations between the structure of viruses and their ability to modulate cellular metabolic pathways or induce immune-mediated damage remain to be investigated.Research will focus primarily on studying the effects of respiratory viruses on epithelial cellsand primary brain cells, with particular emphasis on the study of the redox-regulated and inflammatorymechanisms underlying degenerative processes.
