Regularity and Singularity Issues in Geometric Variational Problems
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
01/MATH-03 - Mathematical Analysis, Probability And Mathematical Statistics
Description
The project will address a series of fundamental questions concerning the regularity and the structure of singularities of solutions to geometric variational problems, whose answers will enhance our understanding of their behaviour. In particular, this research line will focus on the study of the approximability of integral currents with fixed boundary by smooth surfaces, in the case where the boundary satisfies the necessary conditions given by Thom's theorem. Expertise in fine techniques of Geometric Measure Theory (integer and modulo $p$ currents, polyhedral approximation) and in algebraic and differential topology techniques.
