Description
The project consists of two integrated activities. The first focuses on the development and optimization of narrow-linewidth laser sources based on Extended Cavity Diode Lasers (ECDLs), starting from a proprietary design. The work includes modifying existing sources and developing emission in the visible/blue range (e.g., 455 nm), relevant for Ba⁺ ion spectroscopy, with particular attention to frequency stability and linewidth reduction. The second part involves using these sources in precision spectroscopy experiments on a few trapped Ba⁺ ions, in order to characterize both laser performance and the electrical properties of the trap, including heating rate measurements, with the goal of supporting the development and validation of new chip-based ion traps.
