Description
Kidney transplantation is the gold standard in the treatment of end-stage renal disease, offering significantly superior quality of life and patient survival compared to dialysis. However, despite advances in kidney transplant techniques and immunosuppressive therapy, long-term survival remains unsatisfactory. The main cause of graft loss is chronic rejection, characterized by predominantly cell- or antibody-mediated activation and a slow decline in renal function. The aim of this study is to investigate the possible role of NK lymphocytes in the development of chronic rejection. Specifically, to evaluate the presence of NK cells in urine using flow cytometry and, if present, to quantify and characterize them morphologically and functionally.
