Fundamental understanding of Fe-based catalysts for the polymerization of bio-souced 1,3-dienes
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
03/CHEM-02 - Physical Chemistry
Description
The project is aimed at the fundamental understanding of iron-based catalysts for the polymerization of bio-terpenes, with particular focus on systems supported by redox-active ligands. The research will concentrate on elucidating the electronic structure of precatalysts and active sites through an integrated spectroscopic and computational approach, with the goal of correlating electronic properties, oxidation states, and metal–ligand cooperativity with catalytic reactivity and selectivity. Particular emphasis will be placed on the identification of key intermediates and on defining activation and propagation mechanisms, including the role of second-sphere interactions. The objective is to provide a molecular-level description of the factors governing activity, stability, and stereo- and regiocontrol, thereby contributing to the rational design of sustainable catalysts for the synthesis of polymers from renewable resources.
