Study of the combined performance of the hybrid system consisting of the Cherenkov imaging telescopes LST and MAGIC, and analysis of gamma-ray emission data from extragalactic sources
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
02/PHYS-01 - Experimental Physics Of Fundamental Interactions And Applications
Description
During 2026, the installation of the final three LST (Large-Sized Telescopes) at the CTAO North site will be completed, and the commissioning phase for the telescopes and the stereo mode operating system will begin. This activity is crucial for the launch of the observatory and will take place during 2027, thanks in part to the contribution of the local research group. The contract holder will participate in the analysis of the first observations to assess the performance of the hardware infrastructure and the analysis pipeline. In parallel, they will focus on analysing experimental data, in particular by studying high-energy gamma-ray emission from extragalactic sources observed in a hybrid manner by the LST and MAGIC telescopes. By studying the interaction of the spectrum emitted at the source with the absorption due to the EBL, a new method is being developed to determine the redshift for BLLacs-type sources, whose redshift is not known a priori.
