Linguistic, literary and philological studies on the Fortleben of authors and themes from Latin literature (2nd century BC – 3rd century AD) in authors and themes of Latin-language literature from the 14th to the 16th centuries
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
10/LATI-01 - Latin Language And Literature
Description
The period from the 14th century, with the first textual rediscoveries, to the European Renaissance, via courtly Humanism, represents a pivotal juncture in the transmission of Latin texts; this is a subject on which numerous studies have focused, providing a sound overall understanding. However, much remains to be done regarding the presence, allusions, receptions, influences, censorship, etc., of individual Latin authors, both in terms of style and form and of philosophical content: annual projects are therefore welcome (with the aim of producing critical editions, monographs, commentaries, translations, dictionaries, etc., including their digital versions) relating to original works (prose and poetry), translations from Greek, commentaries, personal or school notes, dictionaries and manuals, etc., from 1300 to 1600, with a specific focus on the ways in which Latin classics were read, assimilated, transformed and rejected, and on their role in the cultural debate of the time.
