Digital Edition and Lemmatization of Medieval Waldensian texts
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
10/FLMR-01 - Medieval Latin, Romance Philology And Literature
Description
The project builds on the Turin school of Romance philology’s longstanding research on medieval Occitan Waldensian texts, while engaging with issues such as the protection of cultural, religious, and linguistic minorities, ties to local contexts, and the relationship with Digital Humanities. The appointee will work on biblical and parabiblical texts, a field still marked by significant research gaps, focusing on the digital critical edition and lemmatization of the unpublished paraphrase of the Song of Songs. This work will contribute to the creation of a born-digital textual archive of medieval Waldensian literature (and, in perspective, Alpine Occitan literature), grounded in philologically reliable texts and developed in synergy with an automatic lemmatizer currently being designed by A. Giraudo (Studi Umanistici) and M. Stranisci (Informatica), also with methodological implications for training LLMs on minority and/or non-standardized languages.
