Description
The project examines how social norms influence women’s participation in the labor market and politics in Kenya, Indonesia, and Nepal. In Kenya, it will study strategies to encourage employers to support working mothers, for example through breastfeeding rooms, and assess their effects on women’s labor market outcomes. In Indonesia, it will analyze the relationship between female labor force participation and the spread of veiling among Muslim women, estimating its economic and social returns. In Nepal, the project will collaborate with political parties to address social norms limiting women’s participation in representative politics. The pre-doc will support field research and RCTs by monitoring data quality, programming questionnaires, cleaning and analyzing data, coordinating with survey firms, and conducting preliminary research activities.
