Development of an integrated system for high-precision pharmacological screening using 3D models of engineered human cardiac tissues
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
05/BIOS-08 - Molecular Biology
Description
The research aims to develop a platform for high-throughput drug screening based on engineered cardiac tissues derived from induced pluripotent stem cells obtained from patients affected by genetically based cardiomyopathies. The overall objective of this project is to address the growing need to make personalized medicine approaches compatible with three-dimensional modeling on functionalized platforms designed for the digital assessment of the functional properties of in vitro tissues. The experimental approach therefore involves the integration of expertise in tissue bioengineering, 3D bioprinting, molecular cardiology, and cellular biology, combined with know-how in the principles of basic cardiology, in order to validate the developed platform as a functional tool for the identification of therapeutic targets adaptable to different forms of cardiomyopathy.
