Tourism, Destinations and Spatial Interactions: Economic-Statistical Modelling of Tourist Flows in the Rimini Area
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
13/ECON-04 - Applied Economics
Description
The project aims to develop a data-driven approach to analyze and interpret tourist flows in the province of Rimini, an area characterized by complexity and intense tourism. By integrating data from digital and institutional sources (booking platforms, ticketing systems, mobile devices, weather data, and consumption patterns), the research will develop economic-statistical indicators and models that describe the spatial, temporal, and behavioral dynamics of tourism. The main objectives are to identify mobility patterns, territorial imbalances between coastal and inland areas, tourist segments, and potential evolutionary scenarios of the local tourism system. The project seeks to support sustainable planning strategies by anticipating critical issues and opportunities related to overcrowding, environmental pressures, and emerging forms of tourism consumption. The research adopts a multidisciplinary approach and a modular structure, potentially extendable to other territorial contexts.
