Description

Development of grating couplers for Free-Space Optics (FSO) applications, targeting efficient coupling of large-diameter,low-divergence optical beams from air into integrated waveguides. The activity includes the design and simulation of apodized and non-uniform structures, with scattering engineering to control the phase front and improve alignment tolerance.Multiple photonic platforms will be investigated (Silicon-on-Insulator, Silicon Nitride, Lithium Niobate),analyzing trade-offs between efficiency, bandwidth, and robustness to angular and spatial variations of the incident beam. The work also involves device fabrication and experimental characterization through optical measurements in a free-space
