Analysis of plasma miRNAs in patients with epithelial ovarian cancer stratified by endometriosis status

Description
The research activity is focused on the identification of innovative circulating biomarkers in epithelial ovarian cancer associated with endometriosis through the analysis of plasma microRNAs (miRNAs). The project is based on the recent classification of two distinct clinicopathological entities developed by the research group: Endometriosis-Associated Ovarian Cancer (ECOC), characterized by malignant transformation of endometriosis with atypical endometriosis, and Ovarian Cancer with Incidental Endometriosis (EIOC), in which endometriosis is present without evidence of neoplastic transformation. These entities will be compared with ovarian cancers not associated with endometriosis (NEOC, Non-Endometriosis-Associated Ovarian Cancer). The study includes circulating miRNA profiling using the Illumina platform and validation of the most promising biomarkers, with the aim of improving early diagnosis and understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying tumor progression.
