Perseverative thoughts and Rumination as transdiagnostic symptoms associated with altered brain connectivity in mood disorders
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
11/PSIC-01 - General Psychology, Neuropsychology And Cognitive Neuroscience, Psychometrics
Description
The research program involves the study of rumination and persistent thoughts—typical and key symptoms of anxiety and mood disorders—utilized as personality traits, alongside the measurement of associated brain EEG activity and cortical connectivity. To this end, the project includes both a study on two extreme groups of 20 healthy female students with high and low levels of rumination and persistent thoughts, selected from a large sample (approximately 500), and a study on a sample (Rome Unit) of female students with high and low depressive symptoms as measured by the BDI-II. In the laboratory, the high and low trait or depressive symptom groups will be studied through both resting-state EEG recordings (5 min) and during a passive viewing task of specifically validated short emotional film clips, as well as an emotional imagery task in a separate session.
