Biocatalytic reactions for added-value applications in therapeutics and diagnostics (BRAVE)
Scientific-Disciplinary Group
03/CHEM-07 - Medicinal, Toxicological, Nutraceutical-Food, Fermentation And Health And Wellbeing Products Chemistry
Description
The research activities will be dedicated to the biocatalyzed synthesis of chiral amines using transaminases and imine reductases. In particular, the enzymes of interest will be produced in recombinant form from the corresponding gene sequences. New variants of these biocatalysts can be obtained by protein engineering to improve their specificity/stereoselectivity. Engineered variants will also be obtained by fusion with protein tags to increase the solubility/stability of the enzymes, also facilitating their recovery at the end of the process. Innovative systems will also be developed for an efficient and sustainable use of the enzymes of interest, such as reaction systems involving the use of "green" solventsand systems with immobilized enzymes or "catch and release" systems to facilitate the recovery of the amine of interest from the reaction environment.
